Grading Procedure
Pre-Algebra
EVALUATION in Pre-Algebra classes will be based on test and quiz scores, daily work (in-class and out-of-class) and participation in class.
Grading Guidelines:
90% and up - A, 80-89% - B, 70-79% - C, 60-69% - D, 59% and below - F
I. UNIT TESTS AND QUIZZES
A. There will be approximately 1 - 3 quizzes per unit.
B. There will be a test at the completion of each unit.
C. Tests and quizzes will account for a majority of the grade each quarter.
II. DAILY WORK
A. Homework
1. Assignments are a necessity in Math.
a. To practice each skill
b. To receive immediate feedback
1. Reinforcement of correct answers
2. Learning from errors
2. To receive full credit for an assignment (3 points) the following criteria must be met:
a. Assignment must be complete
b. Procedure must be shown
c. Student must demonstrate understanding
d. Assignment must be turned in on time
e. Work is done in pencil
3. Late assignments will not be accepted for credit, unless turned in with a “Late Work Pass”.
a. Students will receive 2 late work passes per quarter.
4. All coursework must be completed to receive a grade. If a student is missing more than 3 assignments they will receive an incomplete for the quarter. When the work is turned in, student will receive his/her grade. If work is not turned in (limit of 2 weeks) the student will receive a grade of F.
5. Students must turn in quality work. This means: the assignment is completed and each problem shows or describes the procedure that was used to get the answer. Students may be asked to redo any assignment that is not quality work.
6. If absent, students will be expected to make up any missed work.
B. In-Class Work
1. Students will be expected to have a 1 inch notebook just for Math.
2. The notebook encourages good study habits and organizational skills. It can aid parents and students with homework and understanding math terminology.
3. If absent, students will be expected to make up any missed work in their notebooks.
III. PARTICIPATION IN CLASS
1. Mathematics is not a spectator sport.
2. Students must participate in mathematics to become good at it.
